Research topics
Plants diversity and conservation
plants molecular systematics
Plant molecular systematics is the study of plant evolutionary relationships using molecular data like DNA sequences. It analyzes genetic variations to reconstruct plant phylogeny, classifying and understanding their evolutionary history, aiding in taxonomy and identifying biodiversity, ultimately unraveling plant relationships and their evolutionary trajectories.
In my experience I've worked on the genus Tephroseris (Asteraceae); the enedemic Hypericum from Albania; the European genus Narcissus and the Alpic endemic Frittillaria.
population genetics
Plant population genetics examines genetic variation and processes within plant populations. It explores factors shaping gene pools, such as mutation, selection, migration, and genetic drift, unveiling patterns of diversity and adaptation. This field elucidates how these dynamics influence plant evolution, ecology, and conservation strategies.
I've worked on the rare species Cypripedium calceolus, Typha minima and Tephroseris balbisiana; but also on the rye (Secale cereale) landraces from the W-Alps.
plants ecological modeling
Plant ecological modeling involves creating computational representations of plant-related ecological processes. It integrates data on plant occurrence and environmental factors to simulate ecosystems. These models predict plant distribution, community dynamics, and responses to environmental changes, aiding conservation, land management, and understanding ecosystem functions.
