Research topics
Simone Bossi was born on March 2nd 1972 in Vercelli, Italy; he lives in Moncalieri with his wife Silvia and his children Margherita and Vinicio. In 2000 he won a public competition for a permanent position in the Life Sciences and Systems Biology Department at the University of Turin and now he works as Manager Laboratory Technician in the GC-MS and HPLC chromatography laboratory at the ”Innovation Centre” in Turin, a branch of the same department. He is also involved in educational activities regarding plant physiology, plant biochemistry and secondary plant metabolites classes. He got M.S. degree in Biological Science at the University of Turin in 1998 with a thesis on primary and secondary metabolism of mint plants in relation to herbicide treatments. In 2003 he got the PhD degree by discussing a thesis on plant-insect interaction mechanisms; during that period he joined a doctorate scholarship at Max Planck Institute in Jena, Germany, on electrophysiological studies related to plant-insect interactions. During his career he gained experiences in several techniques such as gas-chromatography, mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography, confocal laser scanning microscopy, membrane potential measurement techniques and black lipid membrane techniques. Currently his main jobs are lab management, research support and practical formation of new students starting work in lab. Furthermore he ensures the maintenance, the improvement and the updating of the quality management system uni en iso 9001 whereby the research unit of plant physiology is certified.
